MBA Intern - Direct Climate Work
Oakland, CA
Despite best efforts, the climate tech startup ecosystem has yet to meaningfully move the needle on the climate crisis. In collaboration with key advisors—including the former CEO of Patagonia, hardware climate tech founders, and local environmental justice leaders—Jaro has developed a new framework to help startups drive more immediate and large-scale impact. We call this program Direct Climate Work (DCW).
So far, Jaro has implemented DCW internally. This intern will transform the program into a clear, scalable framework for the broader climate tech community. This work will involve engaging Jaro and non-Jaro personnel to distill the core, scalable elements of the program, articulate them clearly for others, and promote the program through appropriate channels.
This role is an opportunity to work at the intersection of climate action, business strategy, and social impact, helping to transform how an entire industry engages with climate.
What You'll Do
- Rapidly get up to speed on the core elements of Jaro’s existing DCW program and initiatives, in close communication with Jaro CEO and founder
- Develop and launch small-scale, real life DCW initiatives to drive beneficial impact and learn from doing
- Engage the broader climate tech startup community, especially founders, to identify shared challenges, explore solutions, and develop effective messaging
- Build mutual, bi-directional learning and co-creative relationships with diverse stakeholders across industries, climate movements, and socio-economic sectors
- Develop messaging frameworks and refined communication collateral (presentations, one-pagers, etc) to share the DCW framework with stakeholders, including current & potential employees, investors, and the broader climate tech community
What We Look For
- Proven track record of managing rapid, scalable, multi-stakeholder initiatives with measurable impact
- Comfortable building out FOAK programs and working in a startup environment
- Strong self-awareness about strengths, growth areas, and communication style, with the ability to engage a broad array of stakeholders
- Eager student of diverse collection of transformative approaches to addressing the climate emergency
- Strong sense of accountability to least represented groups
- Strong analytical skills and ability to apply structured thinking
- Able to create compelling content, with strong writing and storytelling skills
- MBA in process, or equivalent experience in strategy, sustainability, or climate-focused business leadership
About Jaro Fleet Technologies
Jaro Fleet Technologies is a well-funded (GGV, Lerer-Hippeau, Maersk) early-stage startup led by EV expert Joe Miler (ex-Apple Special Projects, Lucid, MIT, Stanford). Jaro is in stealth, commercializing an industry-first business model to beat diesel semi-trucking on a cost-per-mile basis. The model leverages renewable energy assets and commodity EV technologies in a novel configuration to unlock enormous cost savings and scalability. Today, commercial solar is 10x cheaper than diesel on a $/mile basis—yet diesel still dominates. Jaro aims to change that.
Equal Employment Opportunity
We are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees and investing in team diversity as a long-term strategic business asset. This is a continuous, ongoing process and we are always learning. Jaro is proud to be an equal opportunity employer.
