Jaro Fleet Technologies is a well-funded (GGV, Lerer-Hippeau, Maersk) early-stage startup led by EV expert Joe Miler (ex-Apple Special Projects, Lucid, MIT, Stanford). Jaro is in stealth commercializing an industry-first biz model to beat diesel semi-trucking on $ / mile. The model uses renewable energy assets and commodity EV technologies in a novel configuration to drive enormous cost savings and scalability. Today, commercial solar is 10x cheaper than diesel on a $ / mile basis and yet diesel continues to dominate. Jaro aims to change this.

Role

We're seeking an innovative problem-solver to lead critical strategic initiatives as our Head of Special Projects. This role will take on a wide variety of strategically important projects that drive Jaro's business model validation and path to scale. Your first mission will be leading the design, deployment, and operation of a first-of-a-kind electric trucking site — a crucial proof-of-concept project that will validate key operational hypotheses and enable real-world testing of cost reduction strategies. Future projects will be defined to support critical goals associated with fundraising, business development, technology deployment, and operational scaling. The ideal candidate is excited by the opportunity to tackle diverse challenges in uncharted territory, excels in cross-functional roles, and has a proven track record of delivering high-impact, innovative solutions.

Role Responsibilities

  • Lead strategic, cross-functional initiatives from concept to execution, starting with our pilot charging site project
  • Apply creative problem-solving to overcome complex challenges quickly
  • Rapidly design experiments to test key business hypotheses and synthesize learnings to inform strategic decisions
  • Build and manage relationships with external partners, vendors, and stakeholders
  • Interface directly with leadership team to translate vision into actionable project plans
  • Adapt quickly to changing priorities and demonstrate resilience in high-pressure situations
  • Travel up to 50%, domestic, as required by project needs

Role Qualifications

  • Demonstrated history of creative problem-solving and innovation
  • Ability to excel across multiple disciplines, with previous projects touching multiple functions such as engineering, operations, and product strategy
  • Experience leading first-of-a-kind projects that required thinking outside the box (e.g., designing new products, entering new markets, solving operational bottlenecks)
  • Experience at early-stage startups or leading innovation initiatives within larger organizations
  • Experience in roles such as Special Projects, Chief of Staff, Office of the CEO/CTO, or Entrepreneur/Engineer in residence
  • Open to those with nonlinear career paths
  • Technical degree (BS or higher) in an engineering discipline a plus
